Charging time of lithium-ion batteries

Researchers previously assumed that there was a speed limit on lithium ions and electrons that could pass through the batteries, forming an electrochemical circuit.

This limit affected the time taken to charge lithium-ion batteries. However a prototype battery made using new techniques was recently found to charge in less than 20 seconds, compared with six minutes that was required to charge a lithium-ion battery manufactured using original techniques.
